The supplement is dividecl into sections on ovarian follicle development and induction of oestrus, luteal function and pregnancy, contraception, gamete research and cryopreservation, clinical techniques and therapies, and pathophysiology of progestin treatment. This book will be of interest to scientists with a research interest in the reproduction of these species, to veterinarians specialising in small animal medicine, to managers of species preservation, zoological par of commercial animal breeding programmes, and to students of.
Dear Ms. Snyder: Please refer to your supplemental new drug applications dated August 19, 1998, December 30, 1998 and December 23, 1999, received August 21, 1998, January 4, 1999 and December 23, 1999, respectively, submitted under section 505 b ; of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act for Noroxih norfloxacin ; Tablets, 400 mg. We acknowledge receipt of your submissions dated October 29, 1998 and March 19, 2001. These supplemental new drug applications provided for the following changes to the Nor0xin label: 1. The word "children" was changed to "pediatric patients" throughout the label. 2. CLINICAL PHARMACOLGY The second paragraph in this section was revised and a third paragraph was added to read: "In healthy elderly volunteers 65-75 years of age with normal renal function for their age ; , norfloxacin is eliminated more slowly because of their slightly decreased renal function. Following a single 400 mg dose of norfloxacin, the mean SD ; AUC and Cmax of 9.8 2.83 ; ghr ml and 2.02 0.77 ; g ml respectively, were observed in healthy elderly volunteers. The extent of systemic exposure was slightly higher than that seen in younger adults AUC 6.4 ghr ml and Cmax 1.5 g ml. Drug absorption appears unaffected. However, the effective half-life of norfloxacin in these elderly subjects is 4 hours. There is no information on accumulation of norfloxacin with repeated administration in elderly patients. However, no dosage adjustment is required based on age alone. In elderly patients with reduced renal function, the dosage should be adjusted as for other patients with renal impairment see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION, Renal Impairment.
Travelers should carry a full course of antibiotics such as Joroxin or ciprofloxacin for diarrhea and cephalexin or Zithromax for respiratory and skin ailments. Replace medications when they expire. As for whether to carry syringes, Shlim thinks the odds of requiring an injection while traveling are pretty small, as are the odds of having the appropriate needle-syringe combination with you. "Besides, " Shlim said, "if you need an injection and are worried about needles, you're probably in some crummy hospital you'd want to get out of anyway." Finally, before leaving home, consult the Centers for Disease Control Web site cdc.gov travel ; or MedicinePlanet to learn exactly which travel inoculations you need for your destination. But don't go to your family doctor for your shots. State or county departments of health usually offer travel inoculations at better prices. One more thing: Modern medicine has done wonders for keeping travelers healthy and disease-free. But it hasn't done much for the musical tastes of the developing world's bus drivers. Don't forget those earplugs. More for Less appears the third Sunday of the month. C 2000, Universal Press Syndicate.

800-FDA-1088. FDA is notifying the makers of fluoroquinolone antimicrobial drugs of the need to add a Boxed Warning to the prescribing information about the increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture in patients taking fluoroquinolones and to develop a Medication Guide for patients. * Fluoroquinolone antimicrobial drugs are used to treat various bacterial infections. Marketed fluoroquinolone antimicrobial drugs include ciprofloxacin marketed as Cipro and generic ciprofloxacin ; , ciprofloxacin extended release Cipro XR and Proquin XR ; , gemifloxacin marketed as Factive ; , levofloxacin marketed as Levaquin ; , moxifloxacin marketed as Avelox ; , norfloxacin marketed as Noroxin ; , and ofloxacin marketed as Floxin and generic ofloxacin ; . The information regarding warnings for fluoroquinolones and adverse effects on tendons applies to fluoroquinolones for systemic use e.g., tablets, capsules and injectable formulations it does not apply to fluoroquinolones for ophthalmic or otic use e.g., eye drops and ear drops ; . Recommendations and Information for Healthcare Professionals to Consider Regarding Fluoroquinolones.
Sometimes be caused by medicines called diuretics such as furosemide and hydrochlorothiazide. If you are taking a diuretic medicine you should speak with your health care professional. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant while taking NOROXIN, talk to your doctor before taking this medication. NOROXIN is not recommended for use during pregnancy or nursing, as the effects on the unborn child or nursing infant are unknown. NOROXIN is not recommended for children. What are the possible side effects of NOROXIN? NOROXIN is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects caused by NOROXIN, which are usually mild, include dizziness, nausea, heartburn, headache, and rash. If a rash occurs stop taking NOROXIN and call your health care provider. Less common side effects may include changes in hearing and pain, burning, tingling, numbness, and or weakness in arms or legs. If you should develop hives, trouble breathing, wheezing, or other signs of an allergic reaction seek help immediately. You should be careful about driving or operating machinery until you are sure NOROXIN is not causing dizziness. Pain, swelling, and tears of the Achilles, shoulder, or hand tendons have been reported in patients receiving fluoroquinolones, including NOROXIN. The risk for tendon effects is higher if you are over 65 years of age, or if you are taking corticosteroids. If you develop pain, swelling, or tear of a tendon you should stop taking NOROXIN, avoid exercise and strenuous use of the affected area, and contact your health care provider. Convulsions have been reported in patients receiving quinolone antibiotics. Be sure to let your physician know if you have a history of convulsions. Quinolones, including NOROXIN, have been rarely associated with other central nervous system events including confusion, tremors, hallucinations, anxiety, and depression. Quinolones, including NOROXIN, may worsen the signs of myasthenia gravis leading to difficulty breathing which may be life-threatening. If you develop this symptom contact your health care provider right away. NOROXIN may cause a rare heart problem known as prolongation of the QTc interval. This condition can cause an abnormal heartbeat and can be very dangerous. The chances of this event are increased in those with a family history of prolonged QTc interval, low potassium hypokalemia ; , and those who are taking drugs to control heart rhythm called class IA quinidine, procainamide ; , or class III amiodarone, sotalol ; antiarrhythmic agents. You should call your healthcare provider right away if you have symptoms of prolongation of the QTc interval including prolonged heart palpitation a change in the way your heart beats ; or a loss of consciousness fainting spells ; . Diarrhea that usually ends after treatment is a common problem caused by antimicrobials. A more serious form of diarrhea can occur during or up to months after the use of antibiotics. This has been reported with all antimicrobials, including NOROXIN. If you develop a watery or bloody stool, with or without stomach cramps and fever, contact your physician as soon as possible. Sun sensitivity photosensitivity ; , which can appear as skin eruption or severe sunburn, can occur in some patients taking quinolone antimicrobials after exposure to sunlight or artificial ultravioloet light UV ; e.g., tanning beds ; . NOROXIN has been infrequently associated with photosensitivity. Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight or artificial UV light while taking NOROXIN. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing if you are exposed to the sun. If photosensitivity develops, contact your physician.
